level 5 bedroom drywall

Frequently Asked Questions

    • The main difference between level 4 and level 5 drywall finishes lies in the application of an additional layer of skim coat (joint compound) in level 5. This extra layer results in a smoother and more uniform surface.

    • Level 4 is a more cost-effective option since it requires less labor and less joint compound. However, this leads to a decreased level of smoothness, resulting in a lower-quality finish compared to level 5.

    • Level 4 finishes are generally suited for areas with less or moderate lighting where imperfections in the drywall won't be easily noticeable, such as behind kitchen cabinets, closets, and in garages.

    • It is suitable for flat paints, light textures, non-continuous textures, wall coverings

    • It is advisable to use Level 4 only in these specific areas, while Level 5 should be applied to the remaining walls of the building.

    • Level 5 finishing provides the smoothest surface for your walls and is ideal for common areas within a building.

    • It is suitable for glossy, semi-gloss, and enamel paint finishes.

    • This type of finishing is best applied in areas with ample lighting, such as showrooms, art galleries, and upscale offices.

    • 5/8” drywall sheets are generally straighter than 1/2” sheets. They offer better impact resistance, have a higher fire-retardant rating, and provide enhanced sound dampening. However, these added benefits come at a higher cost per sheet.

    • It is generally recommended to use 5/8” drywall, particularly on ceilings, to prevent sagging, and in areas that require sound insulation and fire-rated assemblies.

    • The price per square foot is estimated based on the scope of work and specific project details.

    • Factors such as double-layered drywall, detailed finishes like drywall profiles (e.g., fry reglet), soundproofing for walls, level 4 or 5 finishing, and high ceilings (10 feet and above) all contribute to the overall cost per square foot of your project.
